Buenaventura is the biggest Colombian port on the Pacific Ocean and one of the rainiest cities in the world.
It means either "Good Fortune," or "Good Adventure" in Spanish, depending on a translator.
This picture-book is about getting there, starting from Cali and stopping in amazing San Cipriano on the way. It was definitely adventurous driving through the evergreen mountains where it never snows, swimming in pristine waters, eating some of the best fish ever, and witnessing the weirdest combination of poverty and happiness - The Guardian and BBC listed Colombia the second happiest country in the world.
All the photos were taken at the same time THE PHILOSOPHER'S WALK, TOOTH BUS & A MOUTHFUL OF CHINA was created.

Nanic captures the beauty of the landscape of the countryside and the towns. Some near abstract compositions achieved by taking the camera in for close-ups where two or more vibrant colors on doorways or windows compete and complement are spread throughout this folio, but the emphasis is on people. He has captured every form of passion, innocence, endurance of poverty, celebrations, workers, street scenes, little shops, mariachis, homeless people with their belongs stashed in `their space', fantastic graffiti, the magic of children's smiles and their relationships to their mothers and their beaded braids, the people of the streets and the little areas of space they all homes, flowers, flags hailing Spain and Colombia, an absolutely wonderful sculpted photo of what appears to be a nightclub captured in the day time (deserted save for a sleeping homeless person) called SALSA, little fruit stands and juice carts, children selling handmade jewelry, old people, young people - it is all here in splendid color.
F.J. Nanic proves he is not only a gifted photographer, he is also a consummate humanist, determined to bring this section of the world into our psyches. And we are the richer for it. Grady Harp, March 13
